Answers to common questions

The received strut is slightly longer than my original support. Is that normal?

Yes, slight length differences can be normal. Manufacturers sometimes vary the actual support length, including OEM units.

To install the new supports, fully secure the hatch or hood in the open position and unhook both old supports first. This usually provides the extra space needed for installation.

If the new supports still will not fit, please contact us and include any numbers or markings from both the old and new supports.

The ball sockets don’t align with the ball stud. Did I receive two of the same side?

Not necessarily. Many aftermarket supports are supplied in a neutral position rather than with separate left- and right-side socket orientations.

Mount one end first, then rotate the support clockwise until it lines up and snaps into place.

If you received two different marked supports, an “L” is for the driver side and an “R” is for the passenger side.

The ball socket appears to be too small for my ball stud. How do I remove the wire clip?

This clip is designed to add an extra layer of safety to the end of a lift support. In most cases, new supports are shipped with the clip already installed. It will need to be removed prior to installation and then reinstalled once the support is attached to the ball stud.

To remove the clip, use regular or needle-nose pliers and slide it off from around the collar of the end. It should come off easily without requiring significant force.

Place the lift support end over the ball stud and push firmly until it latches into place. In some cases, a light tap with a hammer can help seat it properly. After installation, gently pull on the end to confirm that it has securely latched onto the ball.

Once installed, reinstall the wire clip the same way it was removed.

Always install the shaft end first, then rotate the body clockwise to align with the second ball stud. Whenever possible, the shaft should point downward when the lid is in the closed position.

I’m working on a project. How can I measure my support to ensure I order the correct one?
