I bought two of these for my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Rear lift worked fine in the summer, but winter in Montana is a different story. Lift the tailgate, and it would fall down on you...ouch!Anyway, I'm no mechanic, I can change a flat but that's about it. The is was an easy install. Worked perfectly. Step 1: get T-40 tork head driver from your local hardware/Loews (cheap) don't worry, I didn't know a T-40 from an avacado when this started.Step 2: each end of the lift support unscrews. Hold the new lift support up to where it mirrors your current support and slightly unscrew one end of new support til it matches install angle and direction of old one. Repeat for opposite side.Step3:loosen the screws on the old units with the T-40 (that took some strain cuz I'm old and weak). Don't unscrew all the way.Step 4: call your wife, or a handy teenager. This step works well to support the tailgate while you work and slightly lift the tailgate or lower slightly to take the pressure off the bolts.Step 5: quickly remove old supports and install new ones (top bolt first, when putting in the new support, this was learned the hard way) before wife begins to fuss. You may have to have her lift higher or lower as noted above to help take pressure off bolts while you screw them in.DONE, Easy Peasy!
