A Three Step Process
The first step of the process for how to install gas lift struts involves removing the damaged strut before replacing it. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the lift support clips. Once removed you can pull the ball of the strut off the joint and remove the strut out of the car.
With the strut removed, you can move on to the second step of the process. Underneath the door, where the lift strut usually meets the body of the car, you should see the fastener which usually serves to connect the strut to the body of the vehicle.
